Company Overview
Our industrial electro-mechanical service center specializes in the complete repair, rewinding, overhaul, and testing of electric motors, generators, pumps, and rotating equipment. Serving manufacturing plants, municipal utilities, commercial facilities, and heavy industrial clients, our modern repair shop is equipped with advanced coil winding machinery, burnout ovens, VPI (Vacuum Pressure Impregnation) systems, and state-of-the-art surge and high-potential testing equipment.

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced In-Shop Electric Motor Winder to join our shop team. In this specialized role, you will perform the complete rewinding, insulation, connection, and testing of AC and DC electric motor stators, armatures, field coils, rotor assemblies, and transformers. The ideal candidate possesses deep technical knowledge of winding configurations, coil geometry, insulation systems, and precision connection techniques for random-wound and form-wound equipment.

Key Responsibilities
• Data Collection & Inspection: Inspect incoming burned-out or failed motors; accurately record original winding data, wire gauge, turns per coil, coil pitch, connection diagrams (span/lead configurations), and core dimensions.

• Stripping & Core Preparation: Operate burnout ovens and cleaning equipment to strip old windings without damaging stator/rotor core laminations; perform core loss testing to verify lamination integrity.

• Insulation & Slot Prep: Cut, form, and install slot insulation, phase paper, top sticks, wedges, and cuffing material using proper NEMA insulation classes (Class H/F).

• Coil Winding & Insertion: Operate manual and automatic winding machines to wind random or form-wound coils; carefully insert coils into slots ensuring proper wire dress, clearance, and turn placement.

• Lacing, Connection & Soldering: Tightly lace and tie coil heads; connect motor leads according to schematic diagrams (delta, wye, multi-voltage, multi-speed); perform silver soldering, brazing, or crimping on all internal connections.

• Varnish, Dip & Bake / VPI: Apply insulating varnish using dip-and-bake ovens or Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) systems; monitor cure times and temperature cycles to ensure complete resin penetration.

• Electrical Testing: Perform surge comparison testing, insulation resistance (megger) testing, high-potential (hipot) testing, resistance measurement (micro-ohmmeter), and phase balance checks prior to and following varnish impregnation.

Minimum Qualifications & Skills
• Experience: 3+ years of direct experience as an electric motor winder in a commercial or industrial motor repair shop.

• Technical Mastery:

o Proficiency in rewinding single-phase, three-phase AC random-wound stators, DC armatures, interpoles, and shunt/series field coils.

o Experience taking precise winding data and calculating re-design connections (voltage/frequency changes) is a strong plus.

o Familiarity with form-wound coil installation and high-voltage stator rewinding (4160V+) is advantageous.

o Proficient using precision measuring tools (micrometers, wire gauges, calipers) and electrical test equipment (surge testers, meggers, ohmmeters).

• Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work on your feet in a shop environment, and perform meticulous hand work requiring high dexterity.
