Established in 1974, Hamilton Electric is a family-owned electric motor and equipment repair facility located in Saginaw, Michigan. We specialize in comprehensive mechanical and electrical repair, dynamic balancing, and rebuilding services for AC/DC electric motors, industrial pumps, generators, welders, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and soft-start systems for industrial, commercial, and agricultural clients throughout the Tri-City area and beyond.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Electric Motor Mechanic to join our shop team in Saginaw. In this role, you will diagnose, disassemble, repair, mechanically rebuild, and test a wide variety of AC and DC electric motors, industrial pumps, and rotating equipment. The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical diagnostic capabilities, hands-on precision repair skills, and familiarity with electro-mechanical machinery.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnostics & Teardown: Disassemble AC/DC motors, armatures, stators, and pumps; perform mechanical failure analysis and document electrical/mechanical faults.
• Mechanical Rebuilding: Fit bearings, shafts, end bells, keyways, and mechanical seals; perform precision machining or sleeve work as required.
• Electrical Testing: Conduct surges, insulation resistance (megger), winding resistance, hipot, and no-load bench testing using multimeters and diagnostic test panels.
• Assembly & Balancing: Reassemble motors and rotating equipment to manufacturer specifications; assist with dynamic balancing and laser alignment.
• Shop Equipment & Maintenance: Operate overhead cranes, hydraulic presses, bearing heaters, lathes, and shop hand tools safely and efficiently.
• Quality Control: Ensure all completed motor rebuilds meet shop quality standards and customer requirements prior to delivery.

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: 3+ years of direct experience in an electric motor repair shop or industrial mechanical maintenance environment.
• Technical Skills:
o Proficiency in disassembling, mechanical rebuilding, and assembling AC/DC industrial motors and pumps.
o Experience reading precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators).
o Understanding of basic electrical testing (surge testing, megohmmeter, winding resistance).
o Mechanical alignment, bearing installation, and shaft tolerances knowledge.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, operate shop cranes/hoists, and stand for extended periods in a shop floor environment.
• Work Ethic: Strong attention to detail, commitment to quality craftsmanship, and reliable attendance.
