Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled, safety-focused Field Service Generator Technician with a strong heavy diesel engine background and advanced electrical troubleshooting capabilities to join our Union team. Working out of our Kenilworth facility, you will perform field maintenance, troubleshooting, load bank testing, fuel system servicing, and system commissioning on natural gas and diesel generators ranging from 25 kW up to 3.5 MW, operating across low and medium voltage distribution systems (480V, 4,160V, and 13.2 kV).

Direct experience performing digital generator controller upgrades and retrofits is strictly required for this position. This is a union shop position subject to a standard 90-day probationary period.

Key Responsibilities
• Field Diagnostics & Repairs: Perform advanced mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, maintenance, and emergency repairs on natural gas and heavy diesel generator packages (25 kW to 3.5 MW). Perform temp generator (rental tie ins) installs.

• Controller Upgrades & Retrofits: Install, wire, program, and commission modern digital generator control panels (e.g., Deep Sea, ComAp, Basler, Woodward) on legacy standby units.

• Low & Medium Voltage Service: Safely service, test, and troubleshoot power systems operating at 480V, 4,160V (4.16 kV), and 13.2 kV levels.

• Transfer Switches & Switchgear: Inspect, repair, and test Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), main circuit breakers, and automatic paralleling controls.

• Load Bank & Fuel Maintenance: Execute resistive/reactive load bank testing, fuel tank maintenance, fuel polishing oversight, and fluid analysis.

• Emergency Field Response: Participate in on-call service rotations to respond to emergency outages and severe storm events across New Jersey.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
• Experience: Proven field service background in power generation with demonstrated heavy diesel engine diagnostic expertise.

• Technical Proficiency: Must have own tools up to 1.5 inch drive.

o Mandatory experience performing digital generator controller upgrades and re-wiring.

o Strong mastery of low and medium voltage AC/DC electrical principles (480V, 4,160V, 13.2 kV).

o Proficient using diagnostic software, megohmmeters, digital multimeters, phase rotation meters, and load bank equipment.

o Hands-on experience with ATS units, diesel fuel delivery systems, and fuel tank maintenance.

• Pre-Employment Screening & Licensing:

o Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.

o Must pass a DOT physical examination and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

• Terms: Successful completion of a 90-day probationary period.
