Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced In-Shop Electric Motor & Equipment Mechanic to join our team in Pennsauken, NJ. Working directly within our fully equipped repair shop, you will perform teardown, diagnosis, precision mechanical rebuilding, and testing on a wide range of AC/DC electric motors (up to 250HP), commercial/residential pumps, gear reducers, and industrial power tools. The ideal candidate brings strong diagnostic abilities, electro-mechanical proficiency, and pride in quality craftsmanship.

Key Responsibilities

• In-Shop Teardown & Diagnosis: Disassemble AC/DC electric motors, submersible/sump pumps, blowers, gear drives, and power tools to identify electrical failures or mechanical wear.

• Mechanical & Electrical Rebuilding: Replace bearings, mechanical seals, brushes, armatures, bushings, shafts, and end bells. Perform mechanical fit restoration and precision alignments.

• Bench Testing & Electrical Diagnostics: Conduct surge testing, insulation resistance (megger) tests, winding resistance checks, and no-load run testing using electrical diagnostic panels and multimeters.

• Equipment Assembly: Reassemble electric equipment to manufacturer specifications, ensuring proper tolerances, balance, and operational integrity prior to final inspection.

• Machining & Shop Tool Operation: Safely operate shop equipment including hydraulic presses, bearing heaters, lathes, drill presses, overhead cranes, and hand/power tools.

• Quality Assurance: Maintain clean work areas, document work performed on repair orders, and ensure all completed equipment meets shop performance standards.

Minimum Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience in an electric motor, pump, or electro-mechanical repair shop.

• Technical Skills:

o Demonstrated proficiency repairing AC motors (up to 250HP) and DC electric motors.

o Working knowledge of centrifugal, submersible, sump, and HVAC circulating pump repairs.

o Experience troubleshooting and repairing electric power tools, gear reducers, and hoists.

o Ability to read precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators) and electrical schematics.

• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, maneuver heavy equipment using shop hoists/cranes, and work standing in a shop environment.

• Work Ethic: Reliable, detail-oriented, and focused on delivering high-quality repairs with minimal comebacks.
