Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated, hands-on Entry-Level CNC Field Service Technician / Machine Mechanic to join our growing field service team. In this role, you will travel locally to customer facilities to assist with and perform on-site mechanical repairs, low-voltage electrical troubleshooting, and routine maintenance on CNC lathes, mills, and machine tools.
This is a local field service position offering extensive hands-on training alongside experienced senior technicians. You will be home 95% of the time, with minimal overnight travel, making it an ideal opportunity for an entry-level technician looking to build a long-term career in CNC machine tool repair without the hassle of constant long-distance travel.
Key Responsibilities
• Field Repair & Maintenance: Assist in diagnosing, disassembling, repairing, and reassembling CNC machinery, machine tools, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and mechanical drives at customer sites.
• Electrical Troubleshooting: Perform basic low-voltage electrical troubleshooting, reading schematics, testing control circuits, relays, sensors, switches, and power supplies using multimeters.
• Local Travel: Drive daily to client manufacturing facilities throughout New Jersey and surrounding regional areas using your personal vehicle.
• Preventive Maintenance: Execute routine preventative maintenance checks, way-lube system inspections, belt alignments, and mechanical leveling on customer equipment.
• Documentation & Client Communication: Maintain accurate work orders, log repair hours and parts used, and maintain professional communication with shop managers and machine operators.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of mechanically inclined experience (e.g., automotive repair, industrial maintenance, military mechanical training, machinery repair, or trade school education).
• Technical Aptitude:
o Strong mechanical foundation with the ability to use standard hand tools, precision measuring tools, and shop equipment safely.
o Basic understanding of low-voltage electrical troubleshooting (DC/AC control circuits, sensors, switches) and ability to read basic schematics.
o Highly motivated self-starter with a strong desire to learn the CNC field service trade.
• Transportation & Licensing:
o Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
o Reliable personal working vehicle suitable for daily local field service travel (mileage reimbursed weekly).
• Work Ethic & Schedule: Willingness to work overtime hours when needed; strong work ethic and punctuality.
• Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, squat, and work in active manufacturing shop environments.
Compensation & Benefits
• Hourly Rate: $20.00 to $25.00 per hour, based on mechanical background and entry-level skill set.
• Overtime: Time-and-a-half pay for hours worked over 40 hours per week.
