Job Description

 

Job Title: Service Technician Specialist

Perform on-site inspections, trouble-shooting, installations, static and dynamic testing and analysis of electric motors, vibration analysis, laser alignment and service maintenance related activities using specialized tools, and state-of-the-art measuring and condition monitoring devices.

Tasks

• Inspect electrical connections, wiring, relays, charging resistance boxes, and storage batteries, following wiring diagrams.
• Measure velocity, horsepower, revolutions per minute (rpm), amperage, circuitry, and voltage of units or parts to diagnose problems, using ammeters, voltmeters, watt-meters, and other testing devices.
• Analyze inspection and test results in relation to design or rated specifications of motors, and modify or adjust equipment to meet specifications
• Repair and rebuild defective electrical/mechanical parts in electric motors, generators, and related equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
• Disassemble and reassemble repaired electric motors to specified requirements and ratings, using hand tools and electrical meters.
• Rewire electrical systems, and repair or replace electrical accessories.
• Record repairs performed, parts used, and labor time.
• Install motors, equipment, machines, wiring to meet specifications.
• Conduct on-site inspections of electric motors and pumps to include MCC panel connections and perform analysis, troubleshooting and repair.
• Perform on-site and in-house full stator winding “Static” testing to include the following: Meg-ohm Tests, Winding Resistance Tests, Polarization Index (PI) or Di-electric Absorption (DA) Tests, Step Voltage of High Potential (Hi-Pot) Tests and Surge Tests using Baker Instrument AWAIV Static Tester on motors up to 12KV; measure integrity of stator windings, analyze test results; and provide written report to customers.
• Perform checks and inspections of motor power condition including the voltage level, load levels, torque and rotor bar signatures with the use of SKF Explorer EXP4000 testing equipment.
• Perform on-site online or Dynamic Testing of electric motors and test the following domains:
• Power Quality (voltage imbalance/harmonic distortion/overload/etc.)
• Current (over-current/current imbalance)
• Spectrum (rotor bar test/harmonics)
• Torque (torque ripple and torque spectrum)
• Transient Analysis (amplitude of voltage, current and torque at start-up)
• Perform on-site vibration analysis by checking abnormal vibrations on rotating equipment caused by unbalance, misalignment, defective bearings, gear damage or looseness.
• Perform in-depth analysis and identify the root cause of recurring defects causing vibrations and unbalance with the use of Pruftechnik VIBXPERT II with advanced analysis functionalities.
• Perform field balancing perform acceptance measurements of newly produced or installed rotating equipment such as fans, pumps, electric motors or generators. Provide written reports to all relevant machine information such as RPM, roller bearing defect frequencies, warning and alarm thresholds.
• Assist Sales Engineer with customer inquiries relating to their motor issues.
• Examine objects, systems, or facilities, and analyze information to determine needed installations, services, or repairs.
• Responsible for Employee Trainings on new testing equipment and monitoring devices.

General Knowledge Skills

• Must have at least 3 years of experience in the repairs and maintenance service industry.
• Should possess knowledge of electric motors, generators, machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Should have the knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
• Must be familiar with various Predictive Maintenance (PdM) motor testing equipment; Pruftechnik Vibration and Alignment System, PdMA Motor online (Current Signature Analysis) and Offline (Motor Circuit Evaluation) tools
• Must be able to troubleshoot and determine causes of operating errors and identify solutions to correct the problem.
• Should possess knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
• Should be able to effectively communicate in person, writing, by telephone or email with people outside the organization, representing the company to customers and vendors, public government, and other external sources.
• Must possess good judgment and decision making by using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems and must be able to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
